Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is SI Finder?
A: SI Finder (Similar Image Finder) is a desktop application designed to find visually similar images using Perceptual Hashing (pHash). It helps you find duplicates or variations of images regardless of their filename or resolution.
Q: Windows says the app is "Unknown" or "Protected my PC". How do I run it?
A: Because SI Finder is a new, independent application, Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time you run it. This is normal for apps without an expensive commercial signature.
To run the app:
- Click "More info" in the blue warning box.
- Click the "Run anyway" button that appears.
SI Finder works entirely locally and never uploads your images to the cloud.
Q: How do I install SI Finder?
A: Download the bundle for your OS from Gumroad. These are standalone executables:
- Windows: Run the
.exefile. - Linux: Run the provided binary or AppImage.
Q: How does the sensitivity slider work?
A: The slider adjusts the threshold for "similarity". Lower numbers (0-5) are best for finding exact or near-exact duplicates. Higher numbers (10+) allow for looser variations (similar composition or colors).
Q: Where is the database stored?
A: The application stores its index in a local SQLite database within the user's application data folder, ensuring fast searches without re-scanning your folders every time.
Q: Is my data safe?
A: Yes! SI Finder works entirely offline. Your images are never uploaded to any server. All processing is done locally on your machine.
